A playset like this does double duty it's genuinely fun, and it's quietly working on several developmental skills at once, which is exactly what I look for as an OT. The star of the set, the moveable crane, asks a child to coordinate two hands doing two different jobs at the same time: swivelling the arm while lifting or lowering a load. That's bilateral coordination in action, and it's a skill that underpins everything from tying shoelaces to writing later on.
Manoeuvring the crane to place building materials precisely, threading the train around the circular track, or fitting the brick tunnel into a scene all call on hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness, a child has to judge distance, angle, and placement, then adjust their hand movements to match. Grasping and manipulating the chunky wooden pieces, vehicles, and figures also builds fine motor control and grip strength, particularly important for children who are still developing the hand strength needed for tool use and pre-writing tasks.

I bought this ice cream counter for my granddaughter's 2nd birthday. She and her 5 year old sister absolutely LOVE playing with this. Their mother's reaction was 'WHAT a hit!' The younger one loves to stack and place, the colourful and sturdy pieces, in out of the slots of the counter and this will develop into proper pretend play as she gets older. I can see both girls playing with their ice cream counter for years to come as it will have a long shelf life due to both the quality of the parts and the play interest for a broad age group of children.

I absolutely love this puzzle, and have purched multiple ones as gifts. It is well crafted, and the wood is neatly rounded off. I'll be honest I've never played the game guidlines included, and rather use it as a catalyst in my creative processes. I love the fact that there are no rules to this, and the opportunity to use it as an expressive tool. My tiny human loves it too, and can play endlessly with captivated imagination.

What a great fine motor beading set. They give nice resistance when children push them together and pull them apart, which helps strengthen the fingers and improve hand control.
