What Our OT Says
I love using this nuts and bolts set in therapy because kids don’t see it as “work” they see it as play. While they’re busy twisting, matching, and figuring out which bolt goes where, they’re actually strengthening the small muscles in their hands and fingers. That strength is what later helps them hold a pencil, do up buttons, or open containers on their own.
The different shapes and sizes add an extra layer of problem-solving, and the self-correcting design means even younger children can experience success without getting frustrated. I’ve seen children light up when the nut finally fits, and that sense of “I did it!” is just as important as the motor practice.
The activity cards are another favourite, they guide the play while encouraging sorting, matching, and early shape and colour recognition. It’s such a versatile set: you can use it for focused fine motor practice, for early math concepts, or just for the sheer fun of screwing and unscrewing.
For me, it’s one of those timeless resources that blends skill-building with joy, and that’s exactly what play should be.
