Blockables Farm Play Set (56pc)

Regular price R 695.00 ZAR

The Melissa & Doug Blockables Farm Play Set brings the farm to life one snap at a time. Its smooth, colourful wooden blocks join with large connectors that little hands can push in and pull out on their own. With the pieces in this set, children can build a sheep, a pig, a horse, a chicken and a hay bale, then put together a tractor with large wheels and hitch a trailer to the back.

Soft felt horns and chicken wings click straight onto the blocks and add a different texture to touch. There’s an illustrated guide to follow when your child wants a starting point. Once the pieces are familiar, the animals start changing shape: a pig might grow wings, or the tractor might turn into something no one has seen before. Because the pieces connect, a finished animal holds together well enough to carry around, take for a ride and play with properly.

The box folds out into a play space and closes again for tidy storage, with a handle for carrying. The set works with all other Blockables sets, including the Town Play Set, so a farm and a neighbourhood can easily become one bigger world.

What the OT Says

Animals and tractors are often the first things young children want to talk about and play with, and this set builds on that interest. Joining the blocks is real hand work. One hand holds a piece steady while the other pushes the connector in, so both hands have to work together with different jobs. Pulling pieces apart asks for a firm grip and a controlled amount of force. With repetition, both of these can support hand strength, bilateral coordination and grading of force.

Building an animal from the picture guide is a small planning task. A child has to look at the picture, find the pieces that match it, and work out what goes where. That can support visual perception, matching, sequencing and motor planning. The smaller parts, such as the wheels, the trailer hitch and the felt wings, need more precise finger movements than the chunky blocks, so the set offers a range of fine motor challenges in one box.

The felt pieces add a soft texture next to the smooth wood, which can make the set interesting for children who explore through touch. Once the animals are built, the language usually follows naturally: animal sounds, naming, “the tractor is taking the pig to the hay”. For toddlers, that can be a great starting point for early words, and older children can build longer stories and pretend play sequences around the farm. Pushing the tractor and trailer across the floor adds movement and cause and effect to the play.

Like all Blockables sets, there’s no single right way to use it, and it can grow with a child from toddlerhood into the early school years. I’d recommend it for home play as well as therapy sessions and classrooms, where it can be easily adjusted to each child’s level.
