Games to play: Game 1. Naming Game - Increase Vocabulary Each player takes a turn to name the objects depicted on the cards. If the player names the object correctly, he keeps the card. The player who can name the most objects is the winner of the game.   Game 2. Picture Match - Matching Pairs - Visual Discrimination Place all the picture cards face up on the playing surface. The players collect matching pairs of picture cards. The player with the most pairs is the winner of the game.   Game 3. Snap - Matching and Memory Skills Divide the picture cards equally among the players. Player 1 places one of his picture cards face up on the playing surface. Player 2 places one of his picture cards face up next to the exposed card. If the cards match, the first player to call ’SNAP’ collects the pair. The next player places another picture card on the playing surface and play continues as before until all the pairs of cards are collected. If a player is left with no cards in his hand, the other player continues placing his cards face up next to the exposed picture card until a matching pair is seen. If no matching pair is seen, the cards may be shuffled and play resumes. The player with the most matching pairs is the winner of the game.   Game 4. Memory Game - Visual Memory Skills Select about 10 pairs of picture cards, depending on the age and ability of the players. Spread the Picture Cards face down on the playing surface. The players take turns in selecting two picture cards which they show to the other players. If the cards match, the player keeps the pair. If the cards do not match, the player replaces both cards face down in their original positions and play moves to the next player. The player with the most matching pairs is the winner of the game.   Game 5. Picture Lotto - Using the Base Boards. Each player is given a base board which he places face up in front of him. The picture cards are shuffled and placed face down in the centre of the table. The players take turns to draw cards from the pile in the centre of the table and name the pictures. If the Picture Card matches a picture on his base board, he calls the name of the picture and collects the card. The card is placed over the matching picture on the base board. The first player to fill his or her base board is the winner of the game.   Game 6. Sound and Picture Lotto - Recognise Initial Phonic Sounds Each player is given a base board which he places face up in front of him. The picture cards are shuffled and placed face down in the centre of the table. The players take turns to draw cards from the pile in the centre of the table and say the phonic sound of the first letter of the picture.E.g.C ... for cat, B ... for ball, D ... for dog, L ... for lion, etc. If the picture card matches a picture on his base board, he places the card on the base board. The first player to fill his base board is the winner of the game.   GOOD IDEAS Kim’s Game: Place a few (not more than 4), objects on a tray. Give the learner a few seconds to remember what he has seen. Cover the objects. The learner should be able to name the objects he has seen. Repeat as above, but remove one of the objects. The learner should be able to tell which object was removed. Repeat, adding an object. The learner should be able to say which object was added.
