Pastel Montessori Tools
The first year of a child's life is one of the most remarkable periods of development and the right toy during this time is not one that flashes, beeps, or entertains. It is one that invites a baby to figure something out.
This collection of pastel Montessori wooden toys is built around exactly that. Calm colours, solid wood, simple mechanics. Each piece in the range gives a baby one clear challenge to work through and the deep satisfaction of working it out for themselves.
Made from sustainably sourced wood with non-toxic, water-based paints. Suitable from 6 months.
What our OT says:
Montessori object permanence toys are among the most developmentally rich tools available for babies in their first year. When a baby drops a ball into a box and watches it reappear in a tray, they are learning one of the most fundamental concepts of early cognition: that objects continue to exist even when they cannot be seen. This is the foundation for memory, language, and eventually symbolic thinking.
Each toy in this range targets a specific developmental milestone from the simple, repeated posting action of the ball box, to the more complex shape discrimination of the drawer sorter. Used in sequence as your child grows, they form a natural progression that supports fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and cognitive understanding all through calm, independent, child-led play.
The Variants — what each one does and when to use it:
Pastel Ball Posting The classic starting point. A solid wooden box with a round hole and an attached tray. Baby posts the ball, watches it roll out, and does it again. Develops the pincer grasp, object permanence, and the focused repetition that builds early concentration. Best from 6 months.
Pastel Coin Posting The second stage. A flat coin slot requires more precise hand orientation than a ball — baby must rotate and align the coin before it drops. Builds on the ball posting skill with an added layer of wrist rotation and fine motor control. Best from 8 months.
Pastel Spinning Drum Pull the handle down and watch the colours spin, a bell rings inside as a reward. Develops cause and effect understanding, grip strength, and bilateral coordination. Can be used upright or during tummy time. Best from 6 months.
Pastel 3 Ball Posting Three differently coloured balls and three corresponding holes add a colour-matching element to the posting challenge. Builds on the single ball posting skill with an early introduction to matching and sequencing. Best from 9 months.
Pastel 3 Drawer Sorter Three drawers, each holding a different shaped block. Baby opens, closes, and eventually learns to match shape to drawer. A later-stage toy that introduces shape sorting, colour recognition, and memory development. Best from 12 months, loved well into toddlerhood.
5 Piece Montessori Bundle The complete first-year collection. All five toys together, covering the full developmental arc from 6 months through to 18 months and beyond. The best value way to start a Montessori toy journey and a genuinely considered gift for a new baby.
